Crystal Mountain To Hold First Race Of Ec Fat Bike Series

THOMPSONVILLE, MICH - On January 20, 2013, Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa will host the first of three races, the "Fat Chance!", from the Einstein Cycles Fat Bike Series. This new and exciting style of bike racing is a fun, fast and enjoyable way to enjoy Michigan’s beautiful winters without leaving your bike in the basement. Fat bikes have tires that are over four inches wide on custom made frames that let riders float over sand, sticks, mud and, you guessed it, snow.

The late January date makes a nice blanket of snow almost assured. That’s the perfect ingredient to make this fat bike race a huge success. Einstein Racing, a Traverse City-based cycling team, is putting together the event, along with two other races taking place in mid-winter. Each race will have different age and gender categories, awards for the winners and prizes for all registrants, plus lots of fun along the way. Demo bikes will be available to ride and to race on.

Racing will start at noon, with the awards ceremony to follow soon after. The course will feature portions of Crystal’s brand new Fat Bike Winter trail! and will include a loop through the charming village at the base of the ski hill. The soft snow, sweeping corners and fat tires will make this a great family event perfect for every bike enthusiast.
The next race is Fat Tuesday, taking place at the Traverse City Civic Center on February 12, 2013. The final stop will be St. Fatty’s Day at Marsh Ridge in Gaylord, Michigan on March 2. Every race will have refreshments available in addition to wonderful prizes!
