New Chairlift and New Terrain for Crystal Mountain

Big Improvements Planned for the 2013/2014 Ski Season

THOMPSONVILLE, MI - The 2013/2014 Ski Season will offer skiers and riders a new chairlift and new terrain at Crystal Mountain.

The existing Buck Chairlift, installed in 1978, will be replaced with a new Skytrac Quad Lift, similar to the Loki Quad Lift installed in 2011, but without a loading conveyor. In addition to the new lift, subtle contour modifications to the Buck slope and expansion of the skiable terrain on the south side are planned.

Crystal is also improving its snowmaking and grooming systems with at least six new snow guns and will begin to automate its snowmaking to enable faster startups early in the ski season. Existing snow guns will be relocated to other parts of the ski area. Crystal also recently added a new Piston Bully 400 winch-groomer, allowing crews to move large amounts of snow uphill, enabling the resort to open more terrain faster and keep the slopes open later in the season.

"We're very excited to make these changes to the Buck Lift, the adjacent terrain, and snowmaking and grooming systems," said Jim MacInnes, President and CEO of Crystal Mountain. "In order to remain one of the finest ski resorts in the Midwest, we need to be constantly and responsibly upgrading what we have to offer our guests; this kind of re-investment is right on target. And I think our guests will be thrilled with the outcome."

Established in 1956, Crystal Mountain is a family-owned, four-season resort with one of Golf Magazine's Top 25 Golf Schools in America, Spa Magazine's Best Midwest Spas three years running, named among the inaugural Detroit Free Press 16 Green Leaders in Michigan and recognized as one of Condé Nast Travelers 50 Best Places to Ski and Stay in North America (2011) .
