Meet the Crystal Mountain Golf Instructors

The quality, experience and size of the Crystal Mountain Golf School's instructional team is second to none in Michigan. Here is a brief introduction:

Brad Dean

PGA Director of Golf

Crystal Mountain's Director of Golf Brad Dean is recognized nationwide as one of the top instructors in the state and has built Crystal Mountain Golf School from the ground up since joining the resort in 1994. Twice named "Teacher of the Year" by the Michigan PGA, Dean has also repeatedly been named to Golf Digest's Top Instructors in Michigan list and is the force behind Crystal Mountain Golf Schools being named among GOLF Magazine's Top 25 Golf Schools in the Nation (2008).

In 2002, Dean received the honor of Golf Professional of the Year from the Michigan Section PGA. Three of his students have captured Michigan Amateur Championships including Korey Mahoney (2002), Christian Vozza (2005) and Ryan Brehm (2007). All three players have turned professional.

In addition to capturing many local and state golf championships, Dean qualified for and competed in the 2008 PGA Championship at Oakland Hills.  A talented player as well, Dean finished T15 in the 2008 Club Professionals National Championship and earned a spot in the 2008 PGA Championship at Oakland Hills. He has also captured several local and state tournament titles and top ten finishes, and was named, for three consecutive years, the Northern Michigan PGA Teacher of the Year.

Ed Laprade

PGA Director of Instruction

Ed has been teaching players of every level for over 15 years. Prior to joining Crystal Mountain in 1999, Ed worked for four instructors on GOLF magazine's Top 100 Teachers list. In addition to being part of the team that leads the Crystal Mountain Golf School to a Top 25 rating, Ed was also named one of the Best Teachers in State (#5) by Golf Digest. He has attended 14 MORAD golf seminars, and is the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Northern Michigan PGA Assistants Champion.

Greg Babinec

PGA Head Professional

Greg has been a member of The PGA of America since 1988. He was named PGA Professional of the Year for Northern Michigan in 1992 along with Michigan’s Merchandiser of the Year in 2007.

His long list of credentials includes working for the Japanese Women’s Golf Program at Ferris State University. This program saw several students return to Japan to compete on the women’s tour, along with students who became PGA Professionals and remained in the United States.

Greg spent 11 years at Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club where he took on roles such as Head Professional and Director of Golf. Greg joined the Crystal Mountain team in 2012.

Ina Davis

LPGA Professional

Ina joined the award-winning teaching staff at Crystal Mountain in 2004. In her 25 years as a Golf Professional, she has taught lessons and camps for both adults and juniors besides working with several area golf teams.

Ina has developed and teaches the very successful Two- and Three-Day Mini Camps for juniors ages 7-12. In addition, she has also implemented the PGA’s Play Golf America Program, Get Golf Ready, which teaches new to intermediate golfers the fundamentals of the swing, golf course etiquette and rules, and includes supervised playing experiences.

Ina was awarded the Michigan Section PGA President’s Plaque for growing the game of golf in 2006 & 2011. In 2007, she was the finalist for the Michigan Section PGA Junior Golf Leader of the Year award. Ina was also named one of the best instructors in Michigan by Golf Digest. In addition, she is Crystal Mountain Service Excellence Award winner.
