Crystal Mountain promotes Jason Farah to Director of Golf
November 29, 2021
THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. (November 29, 2021) – Jason Farah, former golf course superintendent at Crystal Mountain, has been promoted to director of golf.
“I’m excited about this new opportunity to work closer with ownership and learn more about the business at Crystal Mountain,” Farah said. “I’m passionate about taking golf to a higher standard at this resort, which is already home to two championship golf courses and a beautiful 10-acre practice facility. I look forward to leading future projects to enhance the golf experience on Betsie Valley and Mountain Ridge.”
Since joining the Crystal Mountain team in 2014, Farah has maintained two golf courses to tournament standards while carefully managing expenses. This past summer, he oversaw major renovations on the front nine of Betsie Valley, including new tee boxes, widening fairways and improving waste bunkers.
“The renovations spawned from a forestry management project which involved cleaning up forest floors and removing dead trees in between holes,” Farah said. “In turn, the project allows for regeneration of plants, as well as more sunlight on the course leading to healthier greens and fairways.”
As Director of Golf, Farah will oversee all golf operations, as well as snow removal. Greg Babinec will continue to serve as Crystal’s Head PGA Professional.
“Jason has earned the respect of his Crystal associates, Four Seasons Club premium golf members and tournament players based on the condition of our courses, his work ethic and leadership style,” Chris MacInnes, president of Crystal Mountain, said. “We can all look forward to teeing off on both Betsie Valley and Mountain Ridge with Jason in charge.”
Farah is a graduate of Michigan State University’s Turfgrass Management program. Before joining Crystal, he was an assistant superintendent at Oakland Hills Country Club when it hosted the U.S. Open in 1996 and then named the North Course superintendent in 1997. Farah’s career also includes experience at Flint Golf Club and Apple Mountain Golf Course in Freeland Mich.
Trevor Mills will now take over as golf course superintendent and Dan Heiss will serve as first assistant superintendent.
