March at the Mountain activities scaled back

THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. – The safety of our guests, our employees and our community is our No. 1 priority. So while normal ski operations will continue at Crystal Mountain, the resort will scale back some of its March at the Mountain activities out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with Gov. Whitmer’s guidance of limiting activities for 100 people.

Normal resort operations across Crystal Mountain’s 1,500 acres will continue as usual. Lifts will be running and slopes will be open for skiing and snowboarding. Resort restaurants, Crystal Spa, PEAK Fitness, hotel and lodging operations will also operate as planned. Trails for fat tire biking and hiking, and Michigan Legacy Art Park will also be open. 

The decision to scale back activities like Slush Cup, Cardboard Classic, Celts and Kayaks and other activities in March was not made lightly. But in doing so, the resort is minimizing the chance of groups of 100 people or more from gathering in close proximity to one another while encouraging safe, social distancing throughout the property, John Melcher, chief operating officer for Crystal Mountain, said.

“We celebrate healthy lifestyles and are dedicated to our guests and this community. So we believe scaling back our crowd activities is in the best interest and out of an abundance of caution,” Melcher said. “Uncertain times like this call for certain leadership, and we support Gov. Whitmer’s call for businesses to act now to help stop the spread of coronavirus.”

Crystal Mountain is in constant contact with local, county and state health and safety officials, and routinely educates its staff and guests to be vigilant about health and safety precautions. Travelers are encouraged to always exercise healthy habits when traveling and to follow guidance issued by official sources of public health information like the CDC.

We encourage guests visiting our resort, as well as our staff, to:

• Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially before eating and after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing.
• If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
• Stay home if you are sick.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw that tissue in the trash.
• Avoid touching your nose, mouth and eyes.
• If you have not gotten a flu shot, it is not too late to get one. 

Crystal Mountain also stresses to its employees and all guests the importance of leading healthy lifestyles. Good nutrition, plenty of sleep and exercise, and avoiding harmful substances such as smoking contribute to overall well-being. 

Based on the guidance received from various health agencies, the resort’s own preparedness and the current state of our operations, we are confident our resort is prepared and will continue to be safe.

We have enhanced our facility cleaning and disinfecting efforts.

• We have heightened our efforts to clean all frequently-touched surfaces such as door handles, handrails, locker knobs, elevator buttons, fitness equipment, benches, seats and tables.
• Rental equipment is also disinfected before and after each use.
• Our cleaning team uses disinfectant that exceeds standards for sanitization.
