Crystal Mountain opening this weekend for 2021-2022 season

December 8, 2021

THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. (Dec. 8, 2021) – Skiers and riders have been waiting since April to get back on the slopes at Crystal Mountain. Many will have the chance to do just that this weekend!

Season passholders, Four Seasons Club Members, Crystal Mountain house guests and guests who already purchased a lift ticket will be the first to ski and ride Friday from noon to 4:30 p.m.

The slopes will be open for the season to everyone with a season pass or lift ticket Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

“The entire team is ready and excited to welcome back winter to the resort,” Crystal Mountain CEO John Melcher said. “Thanks to a little help from Mother Nature and our talented snowmaking team, the snow guns have been running on and off since Thanksgiving, and it’s allowing us to open a week earlier than last year.”

Snowmakers are on call 24 hours a day to open the slopes. Melcher encourages guests to check the daily snow report for the latest conditions, open trails and lift hours.

  • Clipper, Loki and North Face chairlifts will be open this weekend.
  • Emmy, Interlochen Arts Avenue, Huggy Bear Hollow, Leo’s Legacy, J.T.’s Trail, Loki, Thor and Brady’s Run trails are expected to be open.
  • Totem Park learning area just outside the Mountain Adventure Zone is also expected to be open, along with the carpet tows.

Check the daily snow report or sign up to receive it at www.crystalmountain.com for the latest conditions and trails

Crystal has received nearly two feet of natural snow the past few days and the snow guns have been running since 4 p.m. Monday. The snow guns are expected to continue running as temperatures and weather conditions allow, so lifts and slopes that are open could change.

As for COVID-19 protocols, masks are not required, however, the CDC strongly recommends everyone wear a face mask in all public indoor spaces regardless of vaccination status. Stay updated on the resort website at https://www.crystalmountain.com/update/.

“Safety is our No. 1 priority at Crystal Mountain,” Melcher said. “Our staff and guests play a huge role in keeping the resort open, so we appreciate those who follow and respect safety guidelines and recommendations.”

To minimize time spent in lift lines and ticket lines, skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to buy their season passes or lift tickets in advance online and reload the same card online for quicker access to the slopes next time.
