THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. – A new winter season brings new ways to make memories at Crystal Mountain. As Crystal Mountain celebrates 70 years this ski season, there is no shortage of fun to be had. From flexible season-pass options and enhanced guest benefits to continued investment in the mountain and experiences for the whole family, Northern Michigan’s favorite four-season destination is preparing to welcome visitors for another season of snow-filled adventure.
“Winter is where it all started here at Crystal Mountain,” said John Melcher, CEO. “Seventy years ago, we were three slopes, and skiers were grooming the mountain themselves. Today, it’s grown into a place rooted in family memories and outdoor adventures. This year we’ll celebrate seven decades as we do each year – with winter sports fun, a community feel, and great moments.” As Crystal Mountain looks ahead to winter 2026–2027, the resort continues to build on its commitment to exceptional skiing and snowboarding and experiences that bring families and friends together throughout the season. Mountain Operations Center
The first phase of the North Village is up, running, and ready for winter. The Mountain Operations Center (MOC) is the new home to the on-mountain team and their equipment, including First Aid, Security and Resort Safety, and snowmaking. The MOC will also house more than 100 snow sports instructors, featuring lockers and a break area. The state-of-the-art service facility includes three in-house hydraulic lifts, allowing Crystal to maintain its four PistenBully snow groomers and 60 fleet vehicles in-house. The MOC makes way for the anchor of North Village – First Tracks. Lodging Upgrades
The former home to First Aid has freed up prime real estate for guests, adding a new unit to the Bungalows at Crystal Glen called the Northway, which will be ready for guests this winter. Located in the heart of Crystal’s village at the base of the slopes, the Northway offers ski-in/ski-out convenience and is just steps away from the Crystal Spa, Peak Pool and Fitness Center, Kinlochen, and the Lodge. More Power, More Snow
Crystal continues to invest in its snowmaking system both on the mountain and behind the scenes. Upgrades include a six-figure investment in new circuits and underground pipe. This will allow increased repositioning of Crystal’s 179 snow machines, aimed at providing greater snow coverage early in the season. More Than Mountain Sports
Crystal Mountain is committed to making Mountain Sports more than just a retail store. For the 2026-2027 ski season, visitors can expect an emphasis on expert boot fitting, gear recommendations, and personalized service to help guests find the right equipment for their needs. With the addition of Brian Nowak, Retail Manager, to the Crystal team, guests can expect a concierge-level experience. Mountain Sports, located in The Lodge, continues its focus on carrying relevant, high-quality products that reflect current trends while meeting the demands of Midwest skiing and riding. Here’s what else is new for the 2025-26 winter season at Crystal Mountain: • Buck Webcam – Get a live look at the slopes, village, and surrounding views with our six Crystal Mountain webcams. The latest addition to the webcam lineup – the Buck Webcam – is mounted outside the Kinlochen building. Whether you’re checking snow conditions, planning your next visit, or just missing the mountain, our webcams help you stay connected year-round. • Slopeside Sweets – Everyone deserves a little treat. Grab a sticky cinnamon roll or some fresh candied nuts near the base of the Crystal Clipper before you hop on the chairlift or after you rack your skis. Slopeside Sweets is the newest addition to Crystal Mountain eateries, offering the perfect pick-me-up for those with a sweet tooth. Warm up with a steaming cup of cocoa or coffee and a pastry. • Cocktails and Keys – Unwind with live music and a beverage at the Bru Bar this winter. Rotating local musicians will offer live entertainment Friday and Saturday nights from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. starting in late December through the ski season. Make the Most of the Mountain With a variety of season pass options, Crystal Mountain makes it easier for guests to find the winter experience that fits their schedule and budget. Options for 2026–2027 include the Crystal Premier and Crystal Midweek Pass. Adventures Beyond the Slopes There’s more to winter at Crystal Mountain than skiing and snowboarding. Guests can round out their visit with a variety of seasonal activities and amenities, including cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, indoor golf simulators and fat-tire biking, conditions permitting. Families can also look forward to seasonal programming, holiday traditions, cozy dining experiences and opportunities to spend time together both on and off the mountain. Whether planning a weekend getaway, a family vacation or a spontaneous day in the snow, Crystal Mountain offers a winter experience for a range of ages and interests. Continued Investment in the Crystal Experience Crystal Mountain’s long-term vision continues to take shape through its Emergent Directions master plan. The North Village development represents the next chapter in the resort’s evolution, with new Mountain Operations infrastructure laying the groundwork for future development near the base of the Loki Quad. This development will make way for the next phase: First Tracks. The future slopeside building near the base of Loki will feature additional lodging, retail, and will be the new home for the snow sports school.
