Good For Michigan recognizes Crystal Mountain with 2022 Good For Workforce Award

THOMPSONVILLE, Mich. (May 13, 2022) – Crystal Mountain is one of five Michigan businesses to be recognized by Good For Michigan as a 2022 Good For Michigan Award winner.

The statewide nonprofit organization, led by People First Economy, utilizes some of the world’s leading assessments in social and environmental sustainability to help companies measure their sustainability success. This initiative helps companies utilize the B-Impact Assessment, commonly used for B-Corp Certification, as well as the SDG (Sustainable Development Goals) Action Manager tool.

Crystal Mountain joined the Outdoor Recreation Good For Michigan Cohort in 2021 as a way to learn how the resort can continue and improve on being a responsible steward of human, natural and economic resources.

“We’re here to celebrate businesses who are using their company as a force for good in their community, environment, policies and practices,” Alice Jasper, program director for People First Economy, said. “As one of the largest employers in northern Michigan, Crystal Mountain is a great example of putting people first, all while being mindful of the environment.”

Hundreds of businesses participate in Good For Michigan each year. The annual awards recognize the businesses that have significant positive impact in five categories: Governance, Environment, Workforce, Community, and Sustainable Development Goals.

The Workforce category evaluates a company’s policies and practices that contribute to its employees’ financial, professional, physical and social wellbeing. Some of the metrics measured in this category are time spent training new hires, employee turnover rate, policies around workday flexibility, discrepancy between highest and lowest paid employees, amount of days given to employees for time off and professional development.

“We truly value our hardworking employees in every department, without them Crystal wouldn’t be the premier four-season resort community it is today,” Crystal Mountain CEO John Melcher said. “At the end of the day, our goal is to create an exceptional experience not only for our guests, but our employees.”

Crystal Mountain employs 500-600 people depending on the season. In addition to competitive wages, employees are offered free golf, free skiing and snowboarding, activity passes, access to the Peak Indoor Pool and Fitness Center, as well as discounts on meals, retail, lodging and Crystal Spa services. Healthcare benefits, 401(k) plans, tuition assistance and paid time off are also included for full-time, year-round employees.
