Tournament Format
Preflighted, "Select Drive" (Shamble) Net Best Ball Match Play
- Two player teams will play "Select Drive" (Shamble) Net Best Ball, nine-hole matches using a three-drive minimum from each player.
- Once a drive is selected, both balls may be placed within one club length of the selected ball in the same element no nearer the hole. Each player will play his own ball from that point throughout the rest of the hole.
- Players will play the ball down after the second shot is played.
- Teams will play a nine-hole match against the other teams in their flight, four matches in total.
- Teams accumulate 1 point for every hole won, and ½ point for every hole tied. 9 points available per match.
- Each team must use a minimum of three drives from each player, per nine-hole match.
- Teams play all nine-holes to complete the match, regardless of the match score.
- If a team does not show at the beginning of a match, the opposing team will play a match against “Par” and will be rewarded with a minimum of 5 points for the match with the team not showing receiving 0 points.
- If only one player from a team no shows from a team on any day, his partner may choose to play his own ball for the first six-holes of the match against the other team but must forfeit the last three-holes (due to three drive minimum rule) unless his partner shows up for the last three-holes.
- The team with the highest point total in the flight is the flight winner. Ties for the flight winners will be broken by:
- 1st tiebreaker: Head-to-head match result
- If still tied, the 2nd tiebreaker: Head-to-head match scorecard play-off
- If still tied, the 3rd tiebreaker: Total points accrued Day 2
- If still tied, the 4th tiebreaker: Total points accrued Day 2, Match #2
- Flight winners will automatically advance to an alternate-shot shootout following play on Sunday, The Crystal Challenge.
- We will also include in the shootout the “2” teams with the highest point totals that did not win their flight, as well as the winner of the “Comeback Kid Flight” on the last day.
Comeback Kid Flight
The teams in last place in each flight after Saturday’s matches will have the chance to play their way in to The Crystal Challenge based on their performance in Sunday’s matches. This ensures that everyone has something to play for on the final day. The team in the Comeback Kid Flight that accumulates the most points in Sunday’s matches will be awarded a spot in The Crystal Challenge. Ties for the Comeback Kid Flight winner will be broken, if necessary, by a head-to-head scorecard playoff.
The Crystal Challenge
Spectators are encouraged to attend!
-
The number of teams (TBD) that will advance to the Alternate Shot Shootout will depend on participation.
- Flight winners
- Two highest point total, “non-flight winner” teams
- One Comeback Kid Flight winner
-
All teams will start on Betsie Valley Hole #1.
- The order of play will be determined by flight order.
- Teams must play the same tee box during the shootout that they played in regulation match play.
- Teams eliminated on each hole (TBD).
-
Ties for elimination on all holes will be broken immediately by a “blind chip off” with the exception of a tie for the overall champion on #9.
- If teams tie for the overall champion on #9, we will play the 10th hole, if teams are still tied, we will then play #11.
- If after the 2nd playoff hole we still have a tie, we will advance to a blind chip off to determine the overall champion.
Tees
- Men Under 50 Years Old: Blue Tees
- Men Ages 50 - 69: White Tees
- Men Ages 70+ : Option to play from Green Tees
- Ladies: Red Tees
Handicap
July 15, 2024 GHIN handicaps will be used. Please note, all players must have a current GHIN handicap. Nine-hole handicaps will be displayed on the scorecards and will be derived by taking 50% of the individual handicaps divided by two, then subtracting the lowest handicap in the match. The lowest handicap player in each match therefore plays with zero strokes, and the other three players receive strokes accordingly based on the handicap differential. Any handicap discrepancies will be evaluated and judged by the Rules Committee. Decisions are final.
